Online registration available.

Work placements

Complete eligible fines through community service.

Start here

Most people come here with one of three questions: does my fine qualify, how many hours will it take, and how do I sign up.

How hours are calculated

$15.70

= one hour

Your total fine is divided by Saskatchewan’s minimum wage, which has been $15.70 an hour since October 1, 2026. The result is rounded up to the next whole hour.

A $280 fine, for example, works out to 18 hours of community service.

A different way forward.

Placements are with community organizations across Saskatchewan: food banks, community associations, faith groups, shelters and more.

How Fine Options works

Four steps from your notice to a settled fine. Only one of them has a deadline.

01

Check your notice

Find your notice of fine and the date of default printed on it.

02

Register before the date of default

This is the step with a deadline. Register online or at a Fine Options office before the date on your notice, and list any agencies you would like to work with.

03

Volunteer

Work your hours with a partner organization. Each shift goes on your work record.

04

Fine settled

Fine Options sends your completed hours to the courthouse.

Fine calculator

Enter the total amount on your notice. The estimate uses the current Saskatchewan minimum wage of $15.70 an hour and rounds up to a whole hour. Your local office will confirm the final number.

Estimate your hours

Choose a quick estimate or enter the exact fine amount from your notice.

Questions people ask

Traffic tickets, parking tickets, bylaw fines and some criminal charges can be eligible. The court identifies eligible fines. SGI fees cannot be worked off.

The total fine amount is divided by the current Saskatchewan minimum wage, which is $15.70 per hour. For example, a $280 fine works out to about 18 hours of volunteering.

You can indicate preferred agencies. Fine Options tries to find a suitable match, but availability varies and a specific placement cannot be guaranteed.

Work placement organizations use a work record. Sign the record when hours are entered and keep your participant copy.

One extension of up to one month may be granted when some hours have been completed and there is a genuine reason the fine cannot be completed on time.

Check with your local town office, or your band office if you live on a reserve. Rural agencies are listed in the partner directory.
